[Dessert Theory]: Gelato

What is the difference between gelato and ice cream?

It's a question that probably commonly pops into our minds here and there at least once.  I know for sure that it was a question that I've thought about and couldn't figure out, but I knew there MUST have been something different about gelato that distinguished it from ordinary ice cream.
Read on to find out what makes it so unique.

[Dessert Theory]: Mousse

Mousse is probably my second most favourtie dessert that I'd usually never turn down. Usually, if creme brulee isn't on the dessert menu and mousse is, I'd definitely choose it. If a DILEMMA occurs and BOTH items are on the menu? Well... all I can say is that I'd be trying my hardest to work it all off in the next few weeks.

Mousse is another dessert that I found to also come in two different forms : light and foamy or firm and dense. I was really eager to find out why they were different and how they came to be.

[Dessert Theory]: Creme Brulee

Rather than constantly spamming the blog with so many dessert photos, and opening hours of various cafes and restaurants, I thought today I could talk about what I think makes a good creme brulee and my preferences, and expectations for them when served...

Delectable Desserts, Elliot Stables

The more I blog, the more I think about it, Auckland city is really a place filled with a diverse range of everything. It's really nice to think and know the level of diversity and multiculturalism that exists.
Because of this, a range of ethnic and authentic foods become available to us. Today's post talks about a dessert cafe at Elliot Stables that shows a high level of ethnicity and authenticity in their shop and desserts.

Cafe Rhythm, Parnell

If you're like me and like to go food exploring, trying out all sorts of things, then Cafe Rhythm is surely a place you'd want to put on your 'places to try out' list.
Parnell Village is such a popular spot for both tourists and locals, not only filled with high end products, but here you will also find some of the most iconic cafes and shops, along with the infamous old phone booth. However, all these can be easily seen on the main road of Parnell, thus easily passing, or perhaps not even knowing, about the existence of the hidden treasures located within the area.

Moo Chow Chow, Ponsonby

In my mind, Ponsonby always gave me the impression that it was a long street filled with cafes and bars, and at the end of the day is only the start of an unforgettable night of fun.
To some people, more like myself, I think the Ponsonby area can be described in a few simple characteristics: cafes, bars, high end retail stores, and the one or two really famous restaurants. Little did I know, it turns out that Ponsonby street is packed with many ethnic and exotic restaurants that will give your taste buds a real surprise! Moo Chow Chow was a place that really stimulated my taste sense.

Cheuk Hong Kong Style Cafe, Dominion Road

Since the first post was a European style cafe and desserts, I thought this time it would be nice to post about Eastern style desserts.

Cheuk Cafe is a small Hong Kong style cafe located on the busy Dominion Road. Although very distinctive inside, the cafe itself is very easily missed. As you are getting closer to the address, be sure to drive a bit slower to save you the effort of turning the car back round.

With the mass amount of photos of the foods and desserts they made as well at their menu all collaged on their window piece by piece,  the cafe on the outside somehow can always be mistaken to be closed or even mistaken as an empty store space! So please do scroll down at the end of the post to make sure you get the right address and their opening days and hours so you don't miss out.

Fraser's Cafe & Espresso Bar, Mt Eden

Located on a corner off Mt Eden Road, Fraser’s café is a small but warm and cozy place ideal for your Friday night after dinner get-togethers and there’s bound to be something to suit every ones’ taste.

Even though Fraser’s does provide a full breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert menu of gourmet foods, this place has gained more attention for their range of special cheesecakes, and tarts, as well as other savouries, and a few options of biscuits to go with your coffee, which is immediately seen place in their glass cabinet as you walk into the café.

Let Us Indulge Together

A little more about this blog... (and myself)

"While everyone turns to the 'Mains' of their restaurant menus, I always flipped to the 'Dessert' section first..."  - The 'Sweet Tooth' Fairy

What motivated me to starting up a dessert blog was that I realised how difficult it was, for me at least, to find places that served good desserts without us having to go to the same place and getting the same thing every time. Afterall, a part of life is all about trying new and different things right? So why not also with desserts?
