It's sad to admit that I have indeed neglected my blog but at the same time the habit of snapping photos of my food was still part of my daily routine.
What have I been doing in the past year and a half? - I traveled, worked, and continued to explore. Some posts, like this one, are definitely long overdue but nonetheless I thought to post it up anyway since the duration is was not too long ago. I think I'm going to add 'keep blog updated' as one of my resolutions.
Echo Dessert cafe is a small sweet dessert cafe located on the busy street of Khyber Pass that provides a large range of both Asian and Western desserts and drinks, some with very unique flavours that you may have never thought would go together.
A few months ago I came this newly opened Asian/Western dessert cafe located in the food street of the fashion district, Newmarket. Ever since my favourite HK Style cafe had closed down, it's been very hard to find a cafe that provides comparable options, flavours, and most importantly, quality.
I took a brief skim of their menu online and saw that not only do they have my usual favourites, but also a few other interesting items that you don't really see anywhere else. I'll start with the usual items first, and then we can look at one of the unique items that enticed me to give Echo Dessert a try.
Coconut Mango Sago |
The drink overall tasted like a vanilla milkshake with almost little to no coconut fragrant at all, and had about 3 pieces of small mango along with about a tablespoon of sago. With that being said, if you're not into trying new flavours and want to stick with classics, then this drink may actually work for you as I'd consider it a vanilla milkshake with an Asian twist.
Creme Brulee |
Echo Dessert's creme brulee was served with a delicately thin tuile and a beautifully cut fresh strawberry. Overall, the texture was smooth texture with a light vanilla fragrant. The only downfall to it for me was the toffee coating on top was too thick but I think that varies from the people who prepare it.
Deep Fried Ice Cream |
The deep fried ice cream I've known was a ball of ice cream dipped in frying batter and quickly dropped and scooped out of the fryer, and that was exactly what I was expecting.
I was surprised (and a little disappointed) when my deep fried ice cream served in front of me was not a ball of greasy batter with melting ice cream in the middle LOL
There's not much to say as it is a very simple dessert. The version served here is they use very think filo pastry and wrapped around smooth and sweet ice cream.
Aside from these, Echo Dessert also served a huge range of desserts and drinks both Asian and Western styles, as well as the usual teas and coffees. Price of desserts and specialty drinks ranges from $6 to $8.
To be fair, as the first and last time I visited this place was about 6 months ago so I'm not sure whether quality, price, and their menu has changed. But if you're ever in the area and looking for an after meal dessert, Echo Dessert cafe can certainly be of service.
