iStorm Gelato & Espresso, Chancery St

Frozen treats are suitable anytime, anywhere, on any occassion, and for any reason. According to Wikipedia, ice cream have been around since 400BC!
A few years ago, gelato (Italian word for ice cream) had been introduced to New Zealand, and had been a huge hit ever since.

iStorm Gelato & Espresso is a small ice cream shop situated in the busy and high end Chancery street of the Auckland CBD. If you're into trying out weirdly unique flavours and East Asian style treats, be assured that you can find all these things in this little shop.

I'm certain that for those unfamiliar with gelato, the first question that pops to mind is: "what's the difference to ice cream?". I've asked myself that a few times and tried to figure it out.
Gelato can come in many unique flavours that you wouldn't often seen available in ordinary ice cream. Apparently, the manufacturing process of gelato is much distinguished to ice cream as it contains less fat, and is churned at a slower speed than ice cream, thus creating a much denser texture as compared to ice cream which is much more of a light whipped texture.

Enough background info, now onto the store itself! Located inside the high end retail district that is Chancery Street, iStorm Gelato is a ice cream store the provides an exclusive range of flavoured gelatos and sorbets, waffles, breads, and a few special drinks that you most likely will not find anywhere else.

Waffles
I'm never one to ever say no to waffles, thus as I saw this as an option on the menu, it was the first thing I ordered. Although these waffles look ordinary, there is nothing to complain about. Sometimes less is better. The proportion of the waffles were actually quite large in size. They are served immediately when taken off the waffle iron, keeping the crispiness on the outside while being warm and chewy on the inside. Not to mention, the price for this was very 'economical'.  I know how difficult it is sometimes to keep a budget and be conservative in any ways possible, and sometimes just not wanting to spend so much on desserts. These waffles are a really good choice for those who are trying to maintain a tight budget or just wanting to go for something not too filling enough to spoil the appetite for a main meal.

Honey Toast
This bad-ass here is the main star of the entire shop! I think people actually to go iStorm to have this, and trust me, you cannot find it anywhere else! Well I haven't found it anywhere else yet...
For those of you who aren't familiar with what Honey Toast is, originating from Japan, it is about half a loaf of bread with the insides carefully cut out into small blocks, sugar coating those blocks and put into the oven to caramalise. I think this step is repeated about three times until they become extremely crunchy, and are put back into the cut out loaf of bread and then topped with any toppings to your liking, in this case iStorm tops it with ice cream and fruits.
When ordering this at iStorm, expect to wait about 20 mins for preparation, or maybe even longer during peak hours, but trust me, the wait is totally worth it!
iStorm's variation of Honey Toast is that they like to sit a homemade waffle bowl on top with your choice of any gelato/sorbet, then carefully decorated with a range of fruits, a little bit of custard squiggles on the sides, and finished with a light dust of icing sugar.
iStorm's Honey Toast is both aesthetically and tastefully pleasing! The size of it would be enough between two or three people to share and enjoy! It is truly another item that is worth making the time for to try once!

Rose Latte
Rose Latte is another of those special drinks that you can't find anywhere else except at iStorm. Customers usually would order this drink with the Honey Toast. If you're ever wanting to try a special kind of coffee, then look no further. The rose latte was creamy with a subtle rose floral scent added. As shown in the photo, the final touch ups were sprinkled crushed rose petals around on the foam. It is such a beautiful drink that is warming and delightful for these recent stormy winter days.

From memory, the prices for food items range from $6 - $17. And drinks are about $3 - $8 pending on the speciality. If you don't prefer any of these items and wanting to keep things simple, iStorm always offers a range of unqiue flavoured gelatos and sorbets to be served on delicious homemade waffle cones!

iStorm gelato is a place that provides great range of exclusive food, drinks, and a warm and cozy facility if you ever get bored from going to the same place for get togethers, and wanting to change things up a bit.
